Hey Siri!

My new iPhone 6S arrived earlier this week, and I've been learning about a number of the new features it offers. I use my iPhone a lot when on the road, especially GPS direction finding Apps. Most often, my mapping App of choice is Co-Pilot, a GPS mapping application with maps stored on my device, so I do not need to consume cellular data while travelling - a major bonus when travelling out of the country! With the changes to Siri in the latest release, I find I'm using Apple Maps more often. The iPhone 6s and 6sPlus offer voice recognition when using Siri. Formerly one needed to open the phone using the home button, or have it connected to a charger to get full functionality of Siri, however now, once you have trained Siri to recognize YOUR voice, you can simply call out "Hey, Siri!" at any time followed by your requested action. My first use of this was having driven to a destination near Cranbrook, I wished to head home by the most direct route. As this was not the path I had taken to arrive at that spot, I was uncertain of the best rout out. A quick, "Hey, Siri, take me home," provided mapping imagery and voice guidance to get me on the way home.

I've also used "Hey, Siri!" to send and reply to text messages, as the interface improves, it becomes ever more effective to dictate responses rather than typing them. I'm still in discovery mode on this aspect of cell phone usage, so expect me to expound on this in greater detail at a later date.
