Seth asks In his recent article "Is Google Making the web stupid," if the control exerted by Google in keeping as much within it's sphere as possible, is preventing the dissemination of quality information contained in documents which do not meet Google's marketing goals. Not only is there the issue of page rank - most searchers do not go to the second page, but it also appears that your page is ranked by the number of Google placed ads inserted in it. This, of course makes it challenging to market web pages which are supported by specific, considered sponsors. I recall George Takei making similar concerns about Facebook Ranking of his page.
