Socks & bedtime

I have cold feet.

Ask my partner; she'll tell you: VERY cold feet.

During the day, I manage this with appropriate footwear, and in some cases by avoiding activities, such as ice fishing, from which there is no respite. However, bedtime has long been a problem. I've added extra blankets, fluffed up the comforter, installed an electric pad, mattress warmer, electric blanket, all to no avail. Adding extra blankets or heating devices just made my body hot, but still left me with cold feet! Adding extra blankets to the foot of the bed just weighed down on my feet, making it worse.

Last year for Christmas, I was given some really fluffy socks. I tossed them in the drawer, as I couldn't figure where I might wear them, they were so thick they would not fit inside any of my footwear. With the beginning of the fall heating season, I was kept awake by my cold feet again. For some reason I remembered the socks, dug them out of the drawer, and enjoyed a warm night's sleep in my fuzzy socks. I was hooked - the socks are left with my pyjamas each morning, ready for the night's return.

Being the curious sort that I am, I decided to see what the internet held on my newfound warmth. The first few sites I found were declaring that wearing of socks prevented the release of toxins from your body. Now I've known folks whose socks might be considered toxic waste, and there have been times when mine might be similarly considered, so I felt socks actually might be an absorbent of such toxins. On to the next Google Search. This time I found lots of information about cold feet, and health issues. Finally I learned about wearing socks in bed, the upshot of which is wear 'em if it works for you, but wear the right colours.

Now I get a warm, worry free  night's sleep. Time to work on my Nightcap!
